Hay hay!  Some of the other Shruggers (K!O x Minitonka x Scallywag) are starting a new Tuesday monthly at Legion.  Though we’re somewhat competing with some of our own familia (RAAAAAAAANDO w/ 8 A’s…DJ Fulltimefun x ARQ), it’s only once a month.  Plus we’ll have live bands and whatnot, in addition to zee good ol’ dance music.  And who says you can’t hit both parties???!!  This “good” weather should be enough of a motivator, party people <3

Recently, the UK government passed The Digital Economy Act which included many, perhaps draconian, measures to combat online music piracy (including withdrawing broadband access for persistent pirates).

Much was proclaimed about how these new laws would protect musicians and artists revenue and livelihoods.

But how much money do musicians really get paid in this new digital marketplace?”

“Even with the relatively healthy profits from CDs (a fast-fading format), a musician has to sell hundreds, month after month, to make a living. I think it’s just a reality there are more people who want to be musicians than the market can support, even (especially?) in the digital age. That doesn’t mean aspiring Jack Johnsons or Thom Yorkes can’t make music. It’s just that lots of them are going to have to do it for love, not money.”
