Sup Shruggers. Finally got this mixtape finished after milling over it for the past couple months. Hopefully this will be the start of some kind of heavy outflux of material – I have like 8 mixes in my head right now that I need to get off my chest, and I know I always say it, but I intend to get prolific. Pretty sure this mix will be the most in-depth one for awhile though.
So yeah, all kinds of advanced wave patterning inside this one. It’s based around all these new ideas that have been rippling out of the hardcore continuum over the last year or so, stuff that I can’t help but follow closely, seeing as how the broader sound seems to mutate just about every other month or so. It’s pretty tough to burn out on something that moves this quick, especially when the inertia pulls in all these talented people who then inform the larger concept and add another sub-set of influences. Even though it’s harder to find the appropriate venues to play this stuff out (at least in the US), I feel like following it all is, at the very least, an amazing way to aggregate across multiple genres. Plus you eventually get this condensed sense of how it’s all evolving in real-time, which just adds another layer to the addiction for me.
But yeah, in general, it’s centered around the moodier strains of what’s been spidering out of dubstep’s wake, along with a couple other genres I’ve pulled in for effect. Part of the reason I made this is just to corral as much of it as possible for those who are unfamiliar, but the bigger focus in this for me was to really draw out the emotional weight inherent in a lot of these tracks…as far as that goes, all I will say is that I put a lot of thought into sequencing and mixing this.
Anyhow, it clocks in at around 1:40, super lengthy for a mix these days, I know, but I was trying to go wide-screen with this one. If you liked The Distant Haunts, it has a pretty similar arc and mood. Things really start to come together around the 40 minute mark, so let it run awhile if you want to see the whole vibe I’m getting at start to…make sense?
….annnd, just cause I’ve clogged your dashboard up already, might as well mention that you can get most of my mixes easily by subscribing to my podcast. All different genres, plus I just realized there’s a mix in there from a few months ago that I never posted here.
Oh…and lastly… if could you do me one small favor, please:
listen to this at night.
Thanks….
I think maybe our homie Eavvon from Pitchfork (& Shruglife DJ) had a lot to do with this video or party in some way shape or form… (I think those black hands in the intro are his)
Even if he isn’t the hand model (and I think he should look into it as a backup plan) this track is killer in all ways. Dom’s- Bochicha is a great track. This was recorded live in Pitchfork’s Brooklyn offices.
Bag Raiders – Way Back Home
Directed by Kris Moyes.
From the upcoming debut self-titled album, released October 1. Buy the “Way Back Home” single on iTunes.
You don’t realize how good a band is sometimes until you watch ‘em in HD. Great video of The Talking Heads just on point vocally. Strangely I just found this video a few months ago.
Waiting for K!O to drop this track on Thursday at Social Security
I surprisingly haven’t heard too many remixes of this song cuz it’s definitely a classic, but anyone that was thinking about doing one might as well give up because this one is a solid banger and stays true to the original while doing it’s own thing at the same time, which to me is what makes a good remix. Definitely a must have.
Bart Bmore and Harvard Bass are both killing it right now so obviously if they were to work together it would be fire right? Exactly. Feast your ears on this banger, definitely a quality collaboration and hopefully won’t be the last time these guy work together

However, I unfortunately haff to be zee beholder off some bad nyoos zeese time, as my partner een zeese endeavois, zee one Adonis Jackson, will bee indisposedible zeese time around; He ees busy making veiny-glorious art sculptings for extravagant PPL who actually live as laveeshly as I do preetend to sound een my head (well u know, at least when I ham typing zeese intervites for you).
BUT EET EES NO MATTER, for I haff recruited one off mein dearest compatriotes from hour shruglife collecteeve een his stead, none other zan zee one DJ ARQ heemself! Also a masterful selector and bon vivant, hour combined presence will guarantee towards you a carousal off proportions unbeknownst!

The eeneemitable Gary Numan looking rather hard-boiled een these video, no? But of course, eenstead off a classique film noir backdrop, wee haff zee tried and true laser grid, not to mention some of zee chunkiest keytars i haff ever seen!

Till tomorrow!
