Visual Economics

16/12/2009

I love that in this world even the most serious topics can be dealt with creatively. As a graduate with a degree inEconometrics & Monetary Policy I fell victim to the boring and lack of creative environment for 5 years of my life. When I found this website, I was pleasantly surprised. Visual Economics is a great source for information regarding the worlds most difficult questions regarding economics. Explaining these topics in essays is extremely difficult to comprehend as well as time consuming. Who has the time? As a design enthusiast, they have found a common ground. Their well designed flow charts and graphs really break down economic policy and puts it in the simplest terms. It’s important to note that these graphs do not answer the “Why?” factor but solely display the results of the analysis conducted.

They do huge visual versions of the entire federal budget as well as other cool stuff. The newest one is of the 2010 budget request from Obama, showing how everything is INTENDED to be allocated (i.e. before the senate goes to town), and how that’s changed from 2009.

anyhow, figure you’d dig it. spent a lot of time zooming in and out of these bad boys.

Oh, not putting this post down by any means Alain, by the by. I’m with you on the fact that all or most things can definitely be improved aesthetically/artistically. It’s just that economics, and numbers in general are not my strongest points in life, despite my Asian outer shell.
