Going back a bit…

16/12/2009

Recently, I was chatting up with some friends about DJ’ing and they asked me “What was your first record? and What type of music did you 1st start with?” I remember my 1st record being Kim English’s- Unspeakable Joy. 12 Years ago a friend 10 years my senior who went by the name DJ GaryLuv put me on to this small record shop in my hood called Music Stop. Domestic Records would cost $7 and Imports $12. Back then before I had a credit card I could only buy what I could afford. I had to buy 2 per week at most! I would make trips daily to check out the new releases that came out. As most may know, It was very necessary (almost imperative) at that time to have 2 copies of “It Takes two” by Rob Base so you could perfect the infamous “I wanna Rock right now” fade back and forth between decks. Using the 3 albums I had ripped onto my computer wasn’t even an imaginable option. I was still on 56K dialing in to AOL 3.0 hoping not to get a busy signal.

Back to the music…To my surprise they were clueless to the tracks I was name-dropping. After realizing I was going no where, I simply told them, “I’ll post them on the blog, Check it soon”. These are some of the songs that collect dust in my record collection.

Cheers!

You know that vocal sample for the ATB joint is sampled from some little UK 7″ from the early 80’s?

The first half is an absolute goldmine for a trance anthem ( as history has shown us). But if you listen to the second half, she starts reminiscing abt this one time she was going to go sit in a field with some chap, but couldn’t cause of rain or appointments or something lalalalala…i started laughing when I heard it cause I was like “damn, the original version is twee as fuuuuck”
