Going back a bit…
16/12/2009Recently, I was chatting up with some friends about DJ’ing and they asked me “What was your first record? and What type of music did you 1st start with?” I remember my 1st record being Kim English’s- Unspeakable Joy. 12 Years ago a friend 10 years my senior who went by the name DJ GaryLuv put me on to this small record shop in my hood called Music Stop. Domestic Records would cost $7 and Imports $12. Back then before I had a credit card I could only buy what I could afford. I had to buy 2 per week at most! I would make trips daily to check out the new releases that came out. As most may know, It was very necessary (almost imperative) at that time to have 2 copies of “It Takes two” by Rob Base so you could perfect the infamous “I wanna Rock right now” fade back and forth between decks. Using the 3 albums I had ripped onto my computer wasn’t even an imaginable option. I was still on 56K dialing in to AOL 3.0 hoping not to get a busy signal.
Back to the music…To my surprise they were clueless to the tracks I was name-dropping. After realizing I was going no where, I simply told them, “I’ll post them on the blog, Check it soon”. These are some of the songs that collect dust in my record collection.
Cheers!
